If you are searching for one of the most difficult experiences that Olympus has to offer, ascending the Barbala Ridge is one of your options.
The ascent is 8 kilometers long, and the gain in altitude exceeds 1500 meters! The majority of the trail is sub-alpine and alpine, but the view of the harsher and untamed side of Mount Olympus compensates for this.
Our route is circular, and we return via a path lined with luxuriant vegetation, dense forests, and crystal-clear streams!
Discover distinct routes leading to the summits of Olympus. Small groups will explore the mythical mountain’s concealed splendors off the beaten path.
We will meet at the Krevatia refuge on the NE outskirts of Olympus, which has an amazing view of Skourta and the steep northern slopes of Laimos that fill the area’s streams. Our meeting will be at 19:00 to get information about the expedition, check equipment, and get to know each other in a relaxed setting with wine and a beautiful evening.
Accommodation: bunk beds in a mountain hut or a 2-person tent (we provide the tent and the mattress)
Meals: not included
Considering the distance we need to go today, we will need to get an early start. Our path will begin at the Krevatia shelter and lead us to the more difficult and steeper (but technically straightforward) Barbala ridge. It will take us around 6 or 7 hours to cover the 8 kilometers uphill to the plateau of the Muses. Let’s relax with a nice beer and some downtime before making the journey to Petrostruga for the night. The descent from the plateau to Petrostruga is quite easy and short, clocking up at just 6 kilometers. The evening will provide us with a satisfying meal and a chance to rest.

At the end of the two days, when we reach the Krevatia shelter, we will be able to look back and realize just how far we have come.
